Currently the only place you can view information is in the main portal -> Info.
You can find the SLIP basemap by clicking the "Featured" tab on the left or searching for it.
I do notice that the SLIP layers dont have any description, which we can update, but do you think a similar dialogue in the window to choose a basemap would be helpful?

Yes please. It would be really handy to have the information there while choosing which basemap to go with.
In reference to your solution given above, I really wouldn't have thought to look there to find a description of the basemaps.

Just wondering if you could possibly include a short description of each basemap when creating a new map.
For example, only upon clicking on the SLIP map did I realize that it only contains a map of Western Australia.
